Women's Hockey Falls to Blugolds

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team struggled to find the back of the net Saturday night at they lost their first WIAC game of the season to UW-Eau Claire.  The Falcons outshot the Blugolds 39-27 but it was not enough as they fell 1-5. 
 
The Blugolds scored four goals in the first period.  All four goals came within five minutes of each other.  The first coming at 11:40 and the final at 16:59. The Blugolds fifth and final goal was an empty net power play goal.  Alyson Niebur was called for cross checking and the Blugolds were awarded the power play opportunity.  The Falcons pulled goaltender Sami Miller for the extra attacker but the Blugold offense broke through to score on the open net. 
 
The Falcons lone goal of the night came at 18:24 in the third period.  Callie Hoff fired one in on a pass from Haley Nielsen and Kathryn Larson.  The goal occurring thirty seconds in the Falcons final power play opportunity of the night. 
 
The Falcons make up their rescheduled game against Bethel University February 12 in St. Paul.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
