RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - A day after winning their first game in program history, the UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team responded on Sunday with a dominant 15-1 win over Elmhurst College. Nine different Falcons scored on Sunday afternoon, led by hat tricks from
Emma Kohlbeck and
Cassandra Hubble. UWRF had a 25-7 advantage in shots on goal and converted 14 of their 17 clear attempts in the game.
The Bluejays went on the attack after winning the opening draw, forcing two saves from Falcons' goalie
Ashley Olson within the first minute of the game. Olson had a relatively easy time in goal the rest of the game, as she only had to make four more saves over the following 59 minutes. Hubble scored her first goal on a free position shot six minutes into the game, and
Nicole Swanson and
Lexy Meinert scored goals of their own shortly after to make it 3-0 with 17:29 remaining in the first half.
Hubble scored another free position goal with just under 14 minutes remaining before UWRF added six goals in the final five minutes to go up 10-0 at halftime. Kohlbeck scored off of an assist from Swanson before
Gina Jablonski found
Hanna Helms to go up 6-0 with exactly ten minutes left in the first half. Kohlbeck and
Grace Ross both scored on free position shots, and Jablonski and Helms added goals to contribute to the 10-goal lead at the half. The Falcons were a perfect 9-9 on clear attempts in the opening 30 minutes and scored on four of their six free position shots.Â
Kohlbeck completed her hat trick on a free position shot early in the second half, and
Krystal Fischer won the ensuing draw control before scoring her first goal of the season to boost the lead to 12-0 with 26:36 remaining. The Bluejays responded eight minutes later with their first goal of the game off of a free position goal from Larisaa Arvanites with 18:26 left in the game.
Faith Majors-Culp scored for the Falcons off of an assist from Meinert to make it 13-1, and Meinert added a goal of her own to extend the lead with 13 minutes remaining. Hubble scored the final goal of the game with 6:16 remaining to finish off her first hat trick.Â
Meinert contributed to the most points with two goals and two assists, followed closely by Kohlbeck and Hubble. Jablonski and Kohlbeck each won a game-high three draw controls, while
Chloe Rogahn led the team with three caused turnovers. UWRF is now 2-1 this season and are back on the road next Saturday when they take on Carroll University at 2 p.m.
