Lacrosse Pulls of Comeback Against Clarke

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons bounced back from an early 6-1 deficit to claim a one-goal victory over Clarke University 14-13 on Sunday afternoon. Gina Jablonski scored six goals to improve UW-River Falls to 6-5 overall, while Emma Kohlbeck also completed her fourth hat trick of the season.

Gabby Moran had a hat trick within 13 minutes to put Clarke up by five goals, but the Falcons responded with four consecutive goals to make it 6-5 with about 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Jablonski kept the Falcons alive in the early stages by scoring the first three goals for UWRF. However, the Pride closed out the half on a 4-1 scoring run to take a 10-6 lead into the break. Moran scored two more goals during the stretch to finish the half with five goals, and Clarke had a 16-9 advantage in shots on goal in the opening half. Three of Moran's goals came on free position shots, while the Pride converted all four of their free position attempts in the half.

Kohlbeck got on the scoring sheet to begin the second half, but Moran quickly answered back on another free position shot after Sophia Leong picked up a yellow card. Trailing 11-7, UWRF went on a 5-0 scoring run with goals from Jablonski, Kohlbeck, Reilly Springman and Nicole Swanson over a 10-minute stretch to go ahead 12-11 with 13 minutes remaining. Nitshelle Duverseau tied the game back up at 12-12, but Jablonski came right back with her fifth goal of the day to go up 13-12 with about nine minutes left. Duverseau scored her fourth goal of the afternoon to even it up at 13-13, but Jablonski came up with the deciding goal with exactly five minutes remaining to pull out the victory. The Falcons controlled the possession for the majority of the final five minutes of the game, while Grace Ross came up with the last of her 12 saves with four minutes to go to seal the victory for UWRF.

The Falcons flipped the shots on goal totals from the opening half to take seven more than Clarke in the second half, and they had twice as many shots overall in the half. UWRF will host Illinois Institute of Technology at 10 a.m. this Saturday for their next home game at Ramer Field.
