RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team posted a 4-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship at Hunt Arena on March 11.
The win was the 400th for head coach
Joe Cranston.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS
- The Gusties took charge of the game scoring a goal at 2:24 in the first half taking a 1-0 lead.
- The Falcons answered back halfway through the first period to tie the score 1-1. Callie Hoff scored the breakaway goal at the 10:29 mark. Assisting her on the play was Kora Torkelson.
- In the second period neither team was able to score. The Falcons had nine shots on goal and held the Gusties to just two in the second period.
- The Falcons came alive in the third period scoring three goals. Hailey scored the first goal, the go-ahead goal, at 5:35. She scored off the rebound of Abigial Stows shot.
- Seconds later Julia Stelljes scored the third Falcon goal. Assisting her on the play was Erin Olson.
- In the final minute Gustavus Adolphus pulled their goalie for an extra attacker leaving the goal open for Abigail Stow to score.
- Both teams did a great job killing the power play opportunities. The Falcons killed off four Gustie power plays and the Gusties killed off three of their penalties.
- The Falcons outshot the Gusties 32-20.
- Sami Miller stopped 19 of 20 shots.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will travel to UW-Eau Claire for a quarterfinal contest on March 14 at 3 pm. This will mark just the second time that two WIAC teams will meet in a NCAA game. On the season the two teams are 2-2 against each other in head to head battles.
