Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Road Win

KENOSHA, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The women's lacrosse team took the win on their first road game of the season.  The Falcons dominated against Carthage College on Friday, beating the Lady Reds 21-11.

Record:  UWRF 2-0, Carthage 3-2

Both sides were quiet on the scoring front for almost the first four minutes of the match.  At the 3:28 mark, the Falcons got on the board first with an unassisted goal by Cassandra Hubble.  The Falcons scored three more over the next four minutes, before Carthage got on the board eight minutes into the game.  All four of those Falcons' goals were unassisted.  It was back and forth between the teams over the next several minutes with each team scoring on consecutive possessions.  The Lady Reds made a 3-0 run around the mid-point of the half, pulling within one.  During this time, the Falcons were penalized with two yellow cards (Emily Herdine, Hubble).  The Falcons then answered with three more goals of their own and never looked back.  The Falcons were up 11-6 at the half. 
Gina Jablonski scored with three seconds left in the first half and continued that effort, scoring first for the Falcons in the second half.  Between the last few minutes of the first half, and the first seven minutes of the second half, River Falls outscored Carthage 7-0.  The Lady Reds went on a 4-0 run around the halfway mark of the second half, but it wasn't enough.  UWRF answered with a 3-0 run, finishing out the game. 

Overall, the Falcons were outshot by the Lady Reds, 30-26.  UWRF's goalie, Ashley Olson picked up 16 saves on the day, compared to a total of two for the Carthage goalkeepers.  River Falls was also successful on 23-31 of their clear attempts. 

Seven different players scored for the Falcons during the matchup, while six different players recorded assists.  Josie Johnson recorded five goals and two assists.  Jablonski and Emma Kohlbeck each scored four goals for the Falcons.

The Falcons are taking on the University of Chicago on Saturday.  Game time 1:00 pm.
