EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls football team earned a second consecutive WIAC road win on Saturday afternoon, defeating UW-Eau Claire 41-24 at Carson Park.
The Falcons, now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC, scored five of six touchdowns on the ground while accumulating 444 yards of total offense with 267 rushing yards.
UWRF was led by a trio of seniors;
Luke Fugate,
Kole Hinrichsen, and
Ben Beise. Hinrichsen rushed for three touchdowns while Beise added two and another from Fugate.
After a scoreless first quarter, two rushing scores from Hinrichsen put the Falcons up 14-0. UWEC recorded a field goal with 3:25 remaining in the first half, setting the score at 14-3 at the break.
The Falcons scored two touchdowns each in the third and fourth quarters, while the Blugolds scored their first touchdown of the contest in the third quarter and added a couple more late.
Beise notched the sole receiving TD for the Falcons, a 50-yard pass from Hinrichsen late in the third quarter.Â
Hinrichsen completed 18 of 35 passes for 177 yards, while Fugate totaled 100 rushing yards.Â
The Falcons limited UWEC to 380 yards of total offense and a 35 percent third down conversion rate.
Jake Halsey led the defense with eight tackles, and
Ted Androli added a trio of tackles for a loss of 25 Blugold yards along with one sack.
Andy Metcalf collected a pair of interceptions.
UWRF welcomes No. 3-ranked UW-Whitewater to Smith Stadium at Ramer Field next Saturday, Oct. 23.
