Blue Devils Down Falcons in Mid-Week Matchup

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team was defeated 4-2 during a WIAC mid-week matchup under the lights at UW-Stout Wednesday evening.

A 3-1 deficit in the first half proved to be too much despite a solid comeback effort in the second half for the Falcons, who drop to 5-9-2 overall.

After an early goal by the home team, Alexis Peterson scored her ninth goal of the season at the ninth minute, assisted by Gretchen Hanson to knot the score at 1-1. However, Stout reponsded with a pair of goal to take a two-goal lead into the break.

UWS led 7-1 in shots while UWRF led 4-2 in corner kicks through the first 45 minutes.

The Falcons answered quickly in the second half with Alayna Westerman tallying her second goal of the year, with an assist from Kassidy Mackie to trim the Blue Devil lead to 3-2.

Stout scored at the 63rd minute to add a two-goal cushion and eventually seal the win.

Grace Zellmer made the start in net for the Falcons and made three saves in net while suffering the loss. Kaylie Krueger relieved her in the second half, also notching three saves.

UWRF returns to Ramer Soccer Stadium for its final regular season home match this Sunday, hosting UW-Eau Claire.
