RIPON, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's soccer team defeated Ripon College 3-0 Wednesday evening during its final non-conference match of the season.
The Falcons, now 6-10-2 overall, snap a three-game losing skid with the win and earn their first shutout victory since an 8-0 win over Finlandia Univeristy on Sept. 25. The win also marks the first road win this season.
UWRF was led by a pair of goals by
Alexis Peterson (So., Mankato, Minn.), who scored her team-leading 10th and 11th goals of the season. The multi-goal performance is the third of Peterson's this year.
The Falcon defense did not allow a Ripon shot attempt, while peppering 24 shots at the Ripon goalkeeper with 17 on target. UWRF also led 9-0 in corner kick chances.
Peterson scored the eventual game-winner at the 20th minute, assisted by
Regan Schweitzer off a corner kick to take a one-goal lead into halftime.
20 minutes into the second half, the visiting Falcons took a 2-0 lead with
Abigail Goodwin's first career goal as the freshman native of Forest Lake, Minn., generated a one-on-one chance and finished past the Redhawk netminder.
Peterson gave UWRF a three-goal cushion late in the game and the Falcons cruised to the shutout.Â
Kaylie Krueger earned the win in net, improving her record to 6-7-1 on the season.
The Falcons travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday for the season finale.
