WINONA, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team fell 1-0 in double overtime during a nonconference matchup at Saint Mary's University Wednesday evening.
After scoreless first three periods, the home team scored the golden goal five minutes into the second team to earn the victory.
Six minutes into the match, the Falcons drew a Cardinal yellow card inside the box to prompt a penalty kick opportunity. During UWRF's first PK attempt of the season,
Alayna Westerman missed wide left.
Neither squad finished in the first 45 minutes, leaving the score at 0-0 at the break. Through one half, Saint Mary's led 7-4 in shots while the Falcons and Cardinals each had three shots on goal.

Kaylie Krueger and the Falcon defense turned aside four SMU corner kicks in the second half.
Saint Mary's finished with a 13-5 shot advantage while limiting the Falcons to a pair of corner kick opportunities. UWRF was also held without a shot during both overtime periods.
The Falcons head back into their WIAC schedule on Saturday, Oct. 9, hosting UW-Platteville at 2 p.m. from Ramer Soccer Stadium.
