RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's basketball team opened its 2021-22 home schedule with an 82-63 loss Wednesday evening at Page Arena versus Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Falcons, now 2-2 overall, were outscored 26-3 in second-chance points and were out-rebounded 53-26. Despite forcing 20 Gustie turnovers, the Falcons conceded 14 turnovers themselves and struggled from three-point range, shooting 1-of-19.
Jake Reeck led the Falcons with 12 points off the bench, followed by 11 points from
Noah Hanson.
Zander Williams led the team with five rebounds.
After a Gustavus three-pointer just over seven minutes into the game gave the visitors at 17-7 lead, the Falcons fought back with an 8-2 run. A
Rodrick Payne layup trimmed the Gustavus lead to 19-15 near the midway point of the first half.
The Gusties, however, answered with a 25-13 run to close out the first half, taking a 44-28 lead into the locker room.
Minutes into the second half, the visitors extended their lead to 21 and held at least a double-digit advantage for the remainder of regulation. UWRF improved its shooting numbers by 10 percent in the second half, shooting 14-of-29.
UW-River Falls returns to Page Arena next Tuesday, Nov. 23, hosting the University of Northwestern.
