ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team dropped its 2021-22 season opener at Bethel University Tuesday evening, falling by a score of 92-47.
UWRF struggled to find a consistent shooting stride with a 25 percent field goal ledger, while Bethel shot 50 percent from the floor.
The Royals got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 13-3 advantage just over four minutes into the contest. UWRF responded though on a 10-7 run in the next four minutes, with an
Annie Feine jumper trimming the BU lead to 20-13.
Bethel shot 10-of-15 from the field while the Falcons struggled and shot under 40 percent, trailing 29-16 through the first 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, the home team extended its lead into double digits with consistent shooting and scoring in the paint.
Bethel led 52-30 at halftime, shooting over 60 percent from the field. UWRF shot 11-off-33 at the break, including a mark of 5-of-17 from three-point range with a pair from
Cassie Heinrichs.
The home team put the game out of reach for the Falcons in the third quarter, limiting UWRF to just two points to take a 43-point lead heading into the final frame.
Heinrichs led the Falcons with nine points, followed by eight from
Averie Varsho and seven from
Jenna Zeman. Feine notched a team-high five rebounds.
UW-River Falls continues non-conference play this weekend at the UW-Eau Claire Tip-Off Classic, set to take on Ripon College and UW-Superior.
