RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell 77-70 against UW-Stout during the WIAC opener Wednesday night at Page Arena.
The Falcons held a lead throughout the first half before the Blue Devils pressured the Falcons late, tying the game at 53-53 at the end of the third quarter before downing UWRF in the fourth.
UW-Stout took advantage of a 45-27 lead in rebounds and drew 24 fouls, making 22 free throws.
UWRF tied a season-high with 11 made triples, led by three each from
Macy Nilsen and
Haley DeSouza. Nilsen and
Jenna Zeman shared a game-high 19 points, while DeSouza added 13 off the bench and
Kameri Meredith led with nine rebounds.
The home team shot 6-of-10 from long-range in the first 10 minutes, earning a 26-19 lead heading into the second quarter. UWRF maintained its lead in the second frame and took a 40-31 lead into the break.
Early in the fourth quarter, Stout claimed its first lead of the game at 54-53. The lead changed a couple more times before the Blue Devils were able to put the game away, leaning on 14 made free throws.
UW-River Falls (4-3, 0-1 WIAC) continues conference play this Saturday, hosting UW-Platteville at 3 p.m.
