Men's Track and Field

First Home Track Meet of 2021 a Success

Beginning their season last week in Menomonie, WI, the UW-River Falls men's and women's track and field teams played host this week to UW-La Crosse and had a number of notable performances.

"It was another fun day for Falcon Track & Field," said head coach Colleen Sowa. "We feel fortunate to compete and it was nice to see many of the athletes take advantage of the opportunity. We are seeing positive results from the hard work the athletes are putting in during the week and it's great to see some PRs (personal records). It's also fun to be able to compete at your home field house because you know the runways, circles, blocks and track so well."

Fresh off of being named National and WIAC Athlete of the Week, junior Lexi LeFever had another impressive weekend with a collegiate PRs in the long jump (5.59m) and 200 (25.52). She is now second all-time in the 200 and long jump in UW-RF indoor history, and she currently has the fastest time in NCAA D3 in the 200 this season.

In addition to LeFever, two other Falcon women impressed on the day in Sarah Langlois and Emmy Farago. Langlois, a sophomore and River Falls native, won the 400 in a time of 1:00.36, a new lifetime indoor PR. Farago, meanwhile, won the mile in a time of 5:16.45, a time that moves her up to 6th on the WIAC honor roll.

On the men's side, Dylan Wachter turned heads with his work on the track. Competing in his first meet of the year, Wachter kicked in into high gear in the 800 and crossed the line in a blistering time of 1:55.53, a lifetime PR and third fastest time in Falcon history.

Eli Dodge, who had a stellar opening weekend seven days ago, didn't disappoint in his encore performance as he took first in the 60 with a time of 7.07, a new PR for him in the event. Dodge also performed well as the anchor in the 4X400 meter relay, an event that he won along with Wachter, Cody Hawkins, and Collin Fluno.

Other notable performances included freshman Brady Sindelir, who set PRs in both the shot put (11.92m) and the weight throw (10.48m), while Peter Place's new personal best in the weight throw (14.89m) put him at eight all-time in the Falcon history books.

In addition to the numerous, impressive results from the individual events, both the men and women distance crew got their first opportunity to run a 5k this year and saw several PRs set.
