The UW-River Falls women's basketball team was locked in during the first half, but it was #15 UW - Eau Claire who pulled away after halftime to win 86-58.
The first few minutes of the game saw the Blugolds take the early lead, but back-to-back threes from Macy Nilsen and Jenna Zeman gave the Falcons a 6 - 4 lead at 5:06 in the first quarter. Both teams settled in after that and UW-EC found themselves up 18-12 after one.
The second quarter began much like the first, with the home Blugolds looking the sharper team. After getting up by 11 after two Megan Baer free throws, the Falcons stormed back with an 11-0 run in just over two minutes of play, highlighted by a three-pointer from Nilsen to knot things up at 29-29. Both teams were able to score once more and the Blugolds went into the locker room up 32-31.
The third quarter proved to be more difficult for the Falcons. The Blugolds saw several significant plays from Tyra Boettcher, including a layup at 7:33, causing the Falcons to take a 30 second timeout. Taylor Crissinger scored out of the timeout to get things back on track for a moment, but a big play from Jadelyn Ganski that ended in a made three for her at 2:56 grew the UW-EC lead, and the Falcons would end the quarter down 58-48.
The last quarter of the game the Blugolds continued to dominate, ultimately winning and extending their winning streak to five games.
The Falcons will have a chance to redeem themselves against UW - Eau Claire on Friday, February 19 at 7 pm, this time at home.
