LeFever and Dodge Highlight Impressive Opening Meet for Falcons

MENOMONIE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com)- Though they were the last of the winter sports to finally get the chance to begin their season, the UW-River Falls men's and women's track and field teams both took advantage of the chance to compete and produced quality performances all throughout the day.

While there were plenty of noteworthy marks achieved, returner Lexi LeFever stole the show. While she won convincingly in the long jump with a leap of 5.16 m, it was on the track where she really turned heads. In the 60 meter dash, LeFever set a new lifetime PR, finishing in 1st place with a time 7.78. As a followup to that performance, she then won the 200 meter dash in a blistering time of 25.64, a new lifetime PR, crushing her previous best of 26.06.

"Lexi was pretty incredible today, there's no doubt about that", said head track and field coach Colleen Sowa. "The marks she hit are a testament to how hard she worked this offseason, even with our season in doubt. Beyond her though, we were really pleased with nearly all of our performances, especially from our freshmen. It's been nearly two years since they have competed at a meet, and they came out today and produced some really great results. We are extremely pleased with how both our men's and women's teams performed today overall."

Other Falcons who won their events on the women's side included Emily Farago taking the 1 mile run in a time of 5:27.03, Sarah Langlois in the 400 meter dash in a time 1:02.44, and Samantha Krueger pole vaulting a height of 3.37 m.

As for the freshmen, Samantha Braunlich (800 meters), Cailyn Kuechle (1 mile run), and Ella Linder (60 meter) were amongst the most notable performers.

On the men's side, it was a sophomore in Eli Dodge who led the way, churning out a lifetime PR in the 60 meter dash, winning with a time of 7.08.

In addition to Dodge, freshmen Trey Hovde (60, 200 meters), Daniel Byers (800 meters, 1 mile), and Samuel Peters (1 mile, 4x400 meter relay) all turned in good results on the day.

Both teams will compete again next Saturday, February 13th at home as they welcome UW-La Crosse to town.
