Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey Wins Again; Clinch #1 Seed in WIAC Championship

After a tie on the road Wednesday, the UW-River Falls men's hockey team knew they needed to get the job done in Friday night's rematch versus UW-Eau Claire, and that's exactly what they did with a 2-0 victory.

The first period saw the Blugolds outshoot the Falcons 9-4, but neither team was able to put one in the goal. The first opportunity to light the lamp didn't come until 14:21 in the second period when UW-RF senior Christian Hausinger pumped one past the keeper. Hausinger was assisted on the goal by fellow senior Peter Karavos. The rest of the second period, freshman goaltender Dysen Skinner held down the fort, recording sevens saves to ensure the Falcons carried their 1-0 lead into the third.

As the third period began, the Blugolds found themselves in some penalty trouble when they received a 5-minute major for roughing, their fourth penalty on the night. The Falcons were unable to take advantage however, but UW-EC began feeling the clock working against them. Throwing caution to the wind in an attempt to tie things up, the Blugolds made a costly mistake when they got called for too many players on the ice with 1:32 left in the game.

The man advantage gave Charlie Singerhouse his opportunity to punch through his 6th goal of the year about 30 seconds later to ice the game. Singerhouse was assisted by Cayden Cahill and Brock Draeger.

With the 2-0 win, the Falcons finished the regular season in 1st place and will be the 1-seed in the WIAC Championship where they await the winner of #4 UW-Superior and #5 UW-Stout. Regardless of opponent, the Falcons will play Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00pm.
