After Wednesday's disappointing loss at home, their first loss of the season, the UW-River Fall's Falcons needed to redeem themselves going into next week's WIAC Championship.
Redemption was exactly what happened.
It didn't take the Falcons long to land their first punch of the night. Just 3:46 into the game, Alex Hantge found the net off assists by Callie Hoff and Kora Torkelson. Inspired by the early goal, the rest of the team didn't waste much time following suit and lighting the lamp again. Maddie McCollins was next in line, with her goal coming from a beautifully placed paced by Abigail Stow at 8:35. Braelyn Sathers gave the Falcons an even bigger leg up going into the second period, scoring her goal 14:27 with an assist going to Hoff.
Heading into the second period, the Blugolds tried to fight their way back into the battle, scoring at 2:36. This would prove to be their only goal for the night. After both teams settled in a even flow for the next few minutes, Stow found her opportunity to snap the net herself and bring the Falcons lead to 4-1 at 12:57. Stow was assisted by Torkelson and Hoff.
In the third period with the game well in hand, the Falcons were able to play free and loose, but they weren't satisfied with the scoreline. At 18:37 in the final stanza, Maddie McCollins got in the scoring column off another assist by Stow, setting the final score at 5-1.
Jordan O'Connor gained her second win of the season between the pipes, recording 14 saves on the night.
The Falcons finish the regular season with a 6-1 record and will be the 2-seed in the WIAC Championship. They will host #3 UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, March 10 at 2pm to start the two-game series.
