Softball Takes Game One over Blugolds

After a tough result earlier in the week, the Falcons took the field once again determined to get a win, this time against the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire.

Game 1

In the beginning, the Falcons were a little slow to start but once they got hot, they couldn't be stopped. Chapin Rappaport got things going for the Falcons smashing a single to right center in the second inning. Lindsey Strom then drew a walk, moving Rappaport to second.

Senior Allison Kondzela laid down a phenomenal bunt to get on base and advance Rappaport and Strom. Next to the plate was Megan Halvorson who drilled the ball to left field to bring Rappaport home. After another walk, this one by Johanna Breyen, Strom was brought home to make it 2-0. Tayler Fall was the next Falcon to get a hit, singling to right field and picked up two RBIs by driving in Kondzela and Halvorson to make it 4-0 through two innings.

The Falcons kept the ball rolling at the top of the 4th when Breyen drilled a bomb to left field to land her at second. Next, Rebecca Daley singled up the middle to advance Bryen to third. With two runners on, Fall stepped up to the plate and smacked the ball over the fence for a homerun, increasing the lead to 7-0.

Up big already, the Falcons offense wasn't satisfied yet. Keegan Piton reached on a fielding error and Rappaport was walked advancing Piton to second. Kondzela was once again up and ripped on to center field to bring Piton home.

UW-EC added on some runs late, but the Falcons dominated to take game one with a final score of 8-4.

Game 2

Game two brought a much more lively Blugolds team.

The Falcons struggled to get their bats hot after the quick break between games and saw the script flipped. After a scoreless first, the Blugolds tacked on five runs in the first two innings. Fall and Piton were the only Falcons to get a hit in the game and UW-RF fell 8-0.

With the split on the day, the Falcons see their record move to 5-7 on the season. The next game for the Falcons will be their home opener when they take on the Blue Devils of UW- Stout on April 14 with game one set to being at 2pm.
