After a tough loss on the road a week ago, the UW-River Falls Falcons women's lacrosse team was determined to win their game today against the Eagles of UW-La Crosse. That determination proved to be more than enough as the Falcons scored within the first minute of the game and never looked back, cruising to a 25-3 victory.
Freshman Emma Heerey started the Falcons off with their first goal of the game, just 54 seconds into the start of the half. Shortly after, Emma Kohlbeck added another goal on for the Falcons.
The Falcons continued to dominate the Eagles, outshooting them 27-5, with 24 shots on goal. The Falcons took advantage of the Eagles' 11 turnovers in the first half and took a strong 14-1 lead into the half.
Dominating the Eagles in the first half of the game, the Falcons still were not satisfied with just 14 goals, so they went back to work offensively. Coming out of the half strong, the Falcons were able to be the first to score again as Kohlbeck put the ball into the back of the net within 30 seconds of the half.
Freshman Grace Hannula scored four consecutive goals, all within seven minutes of each other. When it was all said and done, UW-RF was victorious 25-3, the second most goals scored in a game in Falcon history.
Hannula led the Falcons with six goals on the day, her career high. Not far behind, Kohlbeck and Emily Herdine both had four of their own goals, and Gina Jablonski scored 3.
Junior goaltender Ashley Olson, was able to make four saves on the day.
With the win, the Falcons move to 6-2 on the season. They will be traveling to UW- La Crosse to again play the Eagles on Friday, April 23. Game time is set for 5 PM.
