On a wet, chilly, Friday afternoon, the Falcons of UW-River Fall took on the Titans of UW-Oshkosh at home and earned a split in the doubleheader.
Game 1
After a routine first inning, the Falcons found themselves in a great spot in the second inning starting with freshman Keegan Piton at the plate.
Piton hit a booming double to right field, then Allison Kondzela took a walk to land herself on first base. Freshman Johanna Breyen was next, singling and advancing on a throw to find herself at second and advancing both Kondzela and Piton, the latter to score to make it 1-0. Rebecca Daley was able to reach on an error by the right fielder to bring both Breyen and Kondzela to score bringing the score going into the top of the third to 3-0.
The Falcons were able to hold off the Titans until the top of the 4th. UW-O used some good small ball to get a run across to cut the lead to 4-1.
It was then that UW-O was able to load the bases then bring them all home on a grand slam to take a one run lead. The Falcons made a quick pitching change and ended the inning with a score of 5-3.
However the Falcons weren't going down without a fight. Once again Breyen took advantage during her turn at the plate and doubled to center field. Junior Natalie Bosch then hit a bomb to left field for a home run to bring the score to 6-5.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, the top of the 7th didn't hold the elusive final run to tie things up and they fell 6-5.
Game 2
After a quick break, the Falcons came out ready in game two.
Going into the bottom of the 2nd, Piton found herself at the plate once again and made contact for a double to center field. Kondzela was next to hit a double to left field to gain an RBI, bringing Piton home.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Breyen started the rally for the Falcons once again made contact for a single. Daley was able to single to left, advancing Breyen to second. Bosch was next with another single to left field to load the bases.
Bri Daechsel grounded out to the third baseman but not before advancing all runners and bringing Breyen in to score, putting the Falcons up 2-0.
The Titans struck back in the top of the 5th to get one run across the board, but going into the bottom of the inning, the Falcons were not satisfied with their single run lead.
Daley took a walk to first base as Bosch followed up with a single to advance her to second. Daechsel had a SAC fly advancing Daley to third. Chapin Rappaport then walked, advancing Bosch to second. Then, freshmen Keegan Piton doubled to right center to pick up 3 RBIs, bringing the score to 5-1 to end the 5th inning.
The Titans tried to make a come back, gaining one run in the 6th and one in the 7th, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons won 5-3.

The Falcons bring their record to 10-10 on the year and 6-6 in the WIAC. Their next game will be back at home when they take on the Blu Golds of UW- Eau Claire on Wednesday April 28th.
