Coming much sooner than expected due to the COVID-19 shortened season, senior night at UW-River Falls arrived and the end result was cause for much celebration.
Taking on a Northwestern (MN) team that had won three of their last four games, the Falcons left little doubt that the Eagles winning ways would be ended on Ramer Field.
After an
Emma Kohlbeck goal just over a minute into the game,
Emily Herdine rippled the net three straight times in a four minute span to put the Falcons up 4-0.
Not content to let the scoring streak stop there,
Nicole Swanson then added two straight, followed by Herdine again to make it 7-0.
The Eagles were finally able to score a goal themselves, but the flurry of goals coming at them was far from over. In fact, before the halftime horn sounded,
Holly Eckers,
Emma Heerey,
Abigail Benson, and
Reilly Springman all found the net, helping UW-RF to take a massive 13-2 lead into the break.
The second half was much of the same as Heerey scored twice more, while Herdine, Springman, and senior
Joey Carlson all were able to record a goal themselves.
When it was all said and done, the Falcons were victorious by a score of 19-4. For the game, UW-RF out shot Northwestern 40-16 and held an 18-6 edge in draw controls.
The win brings the Falcons record to 8-2. They will finish up their 2021 competitive schedule on Thursday, April 29 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire for a 7pm game.
