RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's soccer team improved its record to 2-4 on the season with a 6-0 shutout over Northland College Sunday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium, led by hat-tricks from both
Alexis Peterson (Mankato, Minn.) and
Madyson Shew (River Falls, Wis.)
Peterson's eight points (three goals, two assists) were a career-high and the most by a Falcon since
Camryn Altnau tallied eight points (3g-2a) against Martin Luther College in 2018.
The pair of Falcon hat-tricks from Peterson and Shew marked the first time UWRF recorded a multi-player hat-trick performance since 2004, when Ashley Peterson and Sarah Carlson each scored four goals during a win over Wisconsin-Superior.
UWRF led in shots, 30-4 and in corner kicks, 11-1. As a team, the Falcons collected 19 points (6g-7a) with six different players on the scoresheet.
Shew scored the eventual game-winner 13 minutes into the game, finishing a cross from
Kassidy Mackie. At the 28th minute, Peterson put UWRF up 2-0 with her first of three consecutive goals, where the score stood at halftime.
Peterson scored her second of the game just three minutes into the second half and completed the hat-trick just a couple minutes later to put UWRF up 4-0. She then helped her teammate completed a hat-trick, assisting on Shew's second and third goals.
Abby Tapanila,
Gretchen Hanson, and
Alayna Westerman also picked up assists during the six-goal performance - the most goals by the Falcons since 2018.
Kaylie Krueger made three saves in goal while recording her first career shutout and second win of the season.
