RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's soccer team earned its second consecutive shutout on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Martin Luther College 7-0.
The Falcons' seven goals scored were the most since another UWRF win over Martin Luther in 2018, a 9-0 triumph.
Eight Falcons found their way on to the scoresheet, led by two-goal performances from
Alexis Peterson,
Madyson Shew, and
Regan Schweitzer.
Falcon leading scorers Peterson and Shew, who both tallied hat-tricks during the previous game versus Northland, connected on a pair of goals just minutes apart to put UWRF up 2-0 just under 11 minutes into the contest.
Shew scored again, her seventh of the season, at the 23rd minute before Schweitzer scored two goals in a row, the first two of her collegiate career, setting the score at 5-0 heading into halftime.
In the final 45 minutes, the Falcons continued play in the Knights' defensive end, tallying 14 shots to add to their total of 25. Peterson scored her seventh goal of the season at the 57 minute mark and near the end of the game,
Abigail Goodwin scored her first goal as a Falcon off a great through pass from fellow freshman
Haley James.
Kaylee Walter,
Morgan Van Houten, and
Amber Krohn added assists, while Peterson and Shew had two each.
In goal,
Kaylie Krueger made the start and improved her record to 3-2, recording three saves in the first half.
