RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team scored a season-high eight goals during a shutout versus Finlandia University Saturday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
The Falcons' eight goals scored were the most since UWRF defeated Martin Luther College 9-0 in 2018.
Five Falcons contributed multi-point efforts, led by a hat-trick from
Kassidy Mackie. She became the third Falcon this season to record a hat-trick, with
Alexis Peterson and
Madyson Shew both scoring three goals during the Sept. 12 6-0 win over Northland College.
11 minutes into the contest, Mackie scored her first goal of the season, which stood as the eventual game-winner as UWRF notched its third shutout victory in 2021. Mackie scored another two goals in the second half and added an assist for a career-high point total.
Along with Mackie,
Madyson Shew scored two goals,
Alayna Westerman tallied a goal and two assists,
Amber Krohn added two assists, and
Abby Tapanila scored a goal and an assist.
The home team limited Finlandia to just one shot on goal while totaling a season-high 41 shots and 23 shots on target.
Kaylie Krueger made the start in goal and improved her record to 5-3, while
Grace Zellmer played the second half in goal.
UWRF, now 5-5-1 overall, heads into Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Wednesday, Sept. 29, hosting the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at 3 p.m.
