WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls volleyball team split day one of its tournament opener Friday evening in Iowa, defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-0 prior to a 3-0 loss at Wartburg College.

The Falcons earned their first win of the season during the tournament opener, sweeping the Raiders 25-19, 25-13, 25-19.
UWRF totaled 42 kills with a .297 hitting percentage, tallying seven service aces along with 33 assists while limiting the Raiders to a .153 hitting percentage.
Sarah Langlois and
Kameri Meredith shared the team lead with nine kills each.
Grace Boles and
Haley Cuba each recorded double-digit assists while
Rayveen Koha-Jallah and
Katie Koerper combined for 13 kills with over 40 percent attacking percentages.
Set one was back-and-forth until the Falcons closed out with four-straight points, including a pair of kills from Koha-Jallah and
Sami Hilley.
UWRF was most efficient in the middle frame, attacking a rate of 40 percent while limiting MSOE to a .074 hitting percentage. The Falcons jumped out to a 7-1 early lead and didn't look back, maintaining an advantage throughout the set. An ace from
Brooke Voigt extended the Falcons' lead into double digits as UWRF coasted to a 2-0 match lead.
A 5-0 run near the midway point of the third set gave UWRF a 16-9 lead while the team rode that momentum for the remainder of the match, taking the set and match victory with a .286 attack.
Wartburg 3, UW-River Falls 0
In the second match of the night, the Knights dictated play, forcing 23 Falcon errors while attacking at a rate of 34.5 percent.
UWRF had negative hitting numbers and were limited to 19 kills compared to Wartburg's 37.
Koerper led the Falcons' attack with eight kills, while Cuba registered 10 assists and Voigt paced the defense with 14 digs.

The Falcons will travel to Decorah, Iowa, tomorrow for another pair of matches to conclude the tournament at Luther College. UWRF will face Edgewood College at noon, followed by Gustavus Adolphus College at 2 p.m.
