Falcon Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches in Decorah

DECORAH, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls volleyball team wrapped up competition at the Iowa Tournament on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Luther College, defeating Edgewood College 3-1 prior to a loss in three sets versus Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Falcons totaled a season-high 40 assists in the opening match of the day, led by 33 from Haley Cuba - just four shy of her career-high.

Sami Hilley led the attack with 11 kills, followed by nine from Katie Koerper and eight from Sarah Langlois. Brooke Voigt led the team with a season-high 23 digs.

UWRF limited the Eagles to a .109 hitting percentage while attacking .165 with 41 kills and nine aces.

The Falcons took the first two sets, 25-17, 25-16 before Edgewood answered with a 25-21 set three win.

Set four was competitive throughout until the Falcons shut the door at the end. Trailing 22-19, UWRF put together a 6-0 run to close out the set and match 25-22.
 
Gustavus 3, UW-River Falls 0
The Gusties jumped on the Falcons early, attacking at a rate of .360 in the first set and earning a 1-0 lead with a 25-17 set one triumph.

UWRF answered in the second set, battling GAC throughout and forcing extra points. Gustavus finished on top, 31-29. 

The Falcons held the Gusties to a match-low .167 hitting percentage in the third, but weren't able to string together consistent runs. Near the midway point of the set UWRF claimed a 13-12 lead, but it was their only lead of the set as the Gusties closed out on a 13-7 run.

Koerper led the offense with 12 kills and Rayveen Koha-Jallah led the defense with 18 digs.

The Falcons will travel to the University of Minnesota-Morris on Wednesday, Sept. 8 for a nonconference match against the Cougars at 6 p.m.
