SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Sunday afternoon.
The high-scoring match saw all five goals during the first half, with the Yellowjackets taking a one-goal lead.
UW-Superior opened the scoring just five minutes in before the Falcons answered with a pair of goals.
Aliviah McClinton scored the Falcons' first tally of the season, assisted by
Madyson Shew at the 18
th minute. Eight minutes later,
Alexis Peterson with help from
Morgan Van Houten gave UWRF a 2-1 lead.
The Yellowjackets answered with a pair of goals within five minutes of each other, regaining the lead at the 33
rd minute to head into the break with a 3-2 advantage.
UWRF led 6-4 in shots on goal after the first 45 minutes.
Neither team put one across the goal line in the second half despite a strong push from the Falcons.
UW-Superior netminder Jenna Lang, who appeared in relief of the Yellowjacket starter, stood tall making three saves to hold on to the 3-2 win.
The Falcons outshot the Yellowjackets 15-14, with 11 on target, along with a 4-1 corner kick advantage.
Gretchen Hanson and McClinton led UWRF with three shots each. Goalkeeper
Grace Zellmer started and played in net throughout the first half before being relieved by
Kaylie Krueger, who made three saves without any goals allowed.
