EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell 62-49 at No. 18-ranked UW-Eau Claire Wednesday evening.
Despite a strong first half, the home team turned away the Falcons' upset bid with a strong fourth quarter to down UWRF.
The Falcons opened the game leading 11-3 midway through the first quarter, capped off by one of
Macy Nilsen's four three-pointers on the night.
UWRF led 18-11 heading into the second quarter and extended its lead to 10 with a
Colie Justice triple to open the second frame. The Falcons shot 7-of-16 from beyond the arc in the first half and took a 27-19 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, the Falcons shot over 50 percent from the floor and 4-of-6 from long-range, outscoring UWEC 20-17 to lead 47-36 heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Blugolds were dominant in the fourth quarter, opening the period on a 21-0 run and holding the Falcons to an 0-for-13 mark from the field to steal the victory.
Nilsen led the Falcons with 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Falcons, now 7-8 overall and 0-6 during WIAC competition, return to Page Arena on Saturday to host No. 23-ranked UW-Oshkosh.
