RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's basketball opened the 2022 calendar year with an 80-70 loss against No. 4-ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday at Page Arena.
The Falcons returned to action after nearly a month-long break, having its last three scheduled games canceled. The loss snapped the Falcons' two-game winning streak as their overall record falls to 7-5 and 0-3 in the WIAC.
UWRF shot 27-from-63Â from the field and outscored the Titans 16-7 in points off turnovers, forcing 12 UWO giveaways. The Falcons tallied 40 points in the paint, including 27 combined points from forwards
Rodrick Payne and
Marshall Holland.
Noah Hanson led the Falcons with 17 points. Payne notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Falcons started off strong, gaining a pair of seven-point leads through the first 10 minutes of regulation. A
Dylan Parker jumper gave UWRF a 22-15 lead with 10:15 left in the first half. The Titans responded with a 10-2 run to gain their first lead since early on and led 42-37 at halftime.
UWO maintained a lead throughout the second half. The Falcons stayed within single digits during the first few minutes before the Titans pulled away.
UW-River Falls continues WIAC play on the road next Wednesday, Jan. 12, at UW-La Crosse.
