MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team conceded its first loss of the season, falling by a score of 63-45 Tuesday evening at Augsburg University.
The Falcons, now 2-1 overall, were held to 15-of-62 shooting from the field.
Despite UWRF out-rebounding Augsburg 40-39, the home team limited the Falcon starting five to 23 points.
Averie Varsho led the Falcons with a career-high 16 points, shooting 5-of-15 from the field with four three-pointers.
Macy Nilsen brought in a career-high 12 rebounds.
A competitive first half led to 10 lead changes. The Falcons shot over 40 percent in the first quarter and trailed 22-20. An
Annie Feine jumper tied the game at 30-30 with under a minute left in the first half before Auggies converted a trio of free throws to lead by three at the break.
UWRF outscored the Auggies 13-12 in the third quarter but couldn't break the home team's lead, and the Auggies pulled away in the fourth quarter as the Falcons' lost their shooting stride.
The Falcons head west this weekend to face George Fox University and Lewis & Clark College in Oregon.
