NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 6-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team earned a road win at St. Olaf College Tuesday evening, defeating the Oles 7-2.
The Falcons had seven different goal scorers and were led by a five goal second period, outshooting the Oles 33-21.
Emma Schmitz scored just under two minutes into regulation to give UWRF a 1-0 lead, where the score stood after the first 20 minutes before the offense broke open in the second.
The middle frame featured five Falcon goals, including a power play goal from
Aubrey Nelvin.
Maddie McCollins,
Kailey Niccum,
Alex Hantge, and
Megan Goodreau also had UWRF goals to give the visitors a 6-0 lead. Niccum scored the eventual game-winner 1:32 into the period.
Near the midway point of the game,
Jordan O'Kane relieved
Sami Miller in net. The Oles broke the shutout late in the second, and scored once more on the power play to open the third period scoring to trim the Falcon lead to 6-2.
Jordan O'Connor then played the third period in net. Miller earned the win, totaling seven saves.
Madison Lavergne added another Falcon goal in the third to increase the lead to 7-2.
Abigail Stow and
Bailey Olson each had two assists.
UWRF, now 6-1 overall with its sixth consecutive victory, heads to Plattsburgh, N.Y., this weekend to compete in the Cardinal/Panther classic on the campus of Plattsburgh State. The Falcons face No. 3-ranked Plattsburgh State on Saturday and either No. 1-ranked Middlebury College or No. 4-ranked Elmira College on Sunday.
