SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 2-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team shut out No. 1-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
UWRF improves to 9-2 overall while handing the Gusties their first loss of the season and salvaging a series split after Gustavus defeated the Falcons 2-0 on Wednesday in River Falls. The two teams have one more regular season meeting on Jan. 31, 2023 at Hunt Arena.
After a scoreless first period, a pair of Falcon goals in the middle frame gave UWRF a 2-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
MaKenna Aure scored her sixth goal of the season for the eventual game-winner before
Abigail Stow's first of the season under two minutes later.
UWRF was under pressure late in regulation as Aure was called for cross-checking with under two minutes to play. Gustavus pulled its goalie for an extra attacker, and
Emma Schmitz scored an empty-netter to seal the 3-0 win.
Goaltender
Sami Miller notched 26 saves en route to her second shutout of the season.
The Falcons have the rest of December off before returning to action Jan. 6-7 at Concordia College.
