RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Former UW-River Falls Women's Hockey All-American and 2022 AHCA Player of the Year Callie Hoff along with current UW-River Falls Men's Hockey goaltender Dysen Skinner have been selected to compete for Team USA in the 2023 FISU Winter World University Games.
The 2023 FISU Winter Worlds University Games will be held January 11-21, 2023, in Lake Placid, N.Y. The women's tournament features eight teams competing in a round robin to advance four teams to the playoffs, while the men's tournament will have 12 teams, The preliminary round will feature two pools of six teams each, with the top-two finishers in each pool advancing to the playoffs.
Staged every two years in a different city, the Games are an international multi-sport event organized for university student-athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Teams from more than 50 nations will compete in 86 medal events. University students currently enrolled in an approved academic institution and proceeding toward a degree, or who have completed/obtained their degree in the calendar year preceding the Games are eligible.
Callie Hoff (Duluth, Minn.), a 2022 UWRF graduate, is the Falcons' all-time leading scorer with197 points in 120 games played. A two-time All-American and WIAC Player of the Year, she was Division III's leading scorer in 2021-22 en route to earning the Laura Hurd Player of the Year award.
A native of Billings, Mont., Dysen Skinner is a two-time All-WIAC Honorable Mention and has appeared in 37 career games with a .912 save percentage for the Falcons. He has five career shutouts, including three this season and was named the WIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week after guiding UWRF to a sweep over Concordia-Wisconsin (Nov. 4-5), stopping 50 of 51 shots against.
The Team USA men's team is set to open round robin play on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when they host Great Britain at Clarkson University's Cheel Arena in Postdam, NY. The women's Team USA is scheduled to open round-robin competition on Jan. 11, 2023 versus Japan at Maxcy Hall on the campus of SUNY Potsdam.
