WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team captured their first top 25 win of the season defeating No. 12 ranked UW-Whitewater 67-64 Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons' led the first half 32-23. In the second quarter the Falcons held the Warhawks to just over 7 percent from the field while scoring 18 points and shooting 53 percent.
The Warhawks came out strong in the third scoring 28 points and taking a 51-45 lead at the end of the third quarter. They maintained the lead through the final minute of the game until
Macy Nilsen was unstoppable going on a six-point run giving the Falcons the eventual win.
Overall, the Falcons shot 23-for-52 (44.2%) from the floor and an impressive 47.1 percent from downtown. They out rebounded the Warhawks 33-32 and held them to a 41.5 shooting percentage.
Macy Nilsen led the Falcons with 24 points shooting 3-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc.
Cassie Heinrichs followed with 10 points.
Zoey Buchan came off the bench for eight points.
The Falcons now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in WIAC play host Finlandia in a nonconference matchup December 7 at Page Arena. Game time is 6 p.m.
