RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned a nonconference win over Finlandia University Wednesday evening at Page Arena, defeating the Lions 73-51.
UWRF improves to 7-2 overall while shooting just under 50 percent from the field and 9-of-21 from beyond the arc. UWRF tied a season-high with 16 made free throws, forcing 15 Lion fouls.
Kameri Meredith shot 7-of-9 from the floor and 3-of-3 from three-point range, totaling a career-high 18 points.
Macy Nilsen followed with 17 points while
Olivia Miron hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
After a slow start, the Falcons outscored the Lions 19-4 in the second quarter to earn a 31-20 halftime lead. Nilsen's jumper late in the half extended the Falcons' lead to double digits.
UWRF scored 28 third-quarter points, and led by as many as 26 after back-to-back Nilsen made jumpers.
The Falcons led 45-24 in rebounds, leading to 14 second-chance points.
This Sunday, the Falcons host another nonconference game versus Eureka College.
