RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team opened its 2022 WIAC schedule Wednesday evening versus UW-La Crosse, falling 3-1 at Page Arena.
After a 25-22 set-one victory for the visiting Eagles, UWRF bounced back with a strong second set (25-22) to tie the match at one apiece, but UWL won the next two sets (26-24, 25-19) to close out the match.
UWRF falls to 8-2 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC while the Eagles earned their first win of the season to improve to 1-7 and 1-0 in the WIAC.
Kameri Meredith and
Katie Koerper led the Falcon attack, accounting for 75 percent of UWRF's points.
Meredith tied a season and career-high with 25 kills, attacking at a rate of .304. to lead the Falcons. Koerper followed with 21 kills, the most since she totaled 22 in 2019.
The Falcons improved their hitting percentage from .121 in the first set to .389 in the second. Down by as many as eight points near the midway point of the set, UWRF came out of a timeout with six consecutive points to claim a 21-20 lead and closed out the set on a 4-1 run to tie the match at one apiece.
Grace Boles led UWRF with 21 assists and
Brooke Voigt totaled 18 digs.
UWL came out on top during a pivotal third set 26-24. The set went back and forth, featuring eight lead changes. The Eagles then rode that wave in the final set to win 3-1.
The Falcons have four matches this weekend at the UW-La Crosse Invite.
