Volleyball picks up two wins during 2022 opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team opened its 2022 season on Friday afternoon at the Macalester College Invitational with a pair of wins, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan University and Macalester.

The Falcons opened the season with a five-set win over NWU, hitting .186 with 26 block assists and nine service aces.

Junior outside hitter Kameri Meredith led the Falcons with a career-high 25 kills along with six block assists and 22 digs.

Katelyn Maag also totaled six blocking assists and Brooke Voigt led the defense with 29 digs. Katie Koerper and Sami Hilley also paced the offense with double-digit kill totals.

The Falcons and Prairie Wolves went back and forth, trading sets 1-4 before UWRF closed out the match with a 15-8 fifth-set victory.

UWRF's best set came in the third, a convincing 25-13 win in which the Falcons hit .310.
 
UW-River Falls 3, Macalester 1
UWRF compiled a .238 hitting percentage while limits the Scots to a .133 attack rate en route to its second win on the day.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead with 25-15 and 25-13 first and second set wins before Macalester won the third set 25-14, cutting the UWRF lead in half.

Set No. 4 went back and forth before the Falcons strung together four points in a row to take a 12-8 lead and maintained an advantage for the remainder of the set to clinch the match.

Koerper led the Falcons with 13 kills while Meredith notched another double-double with 11 kills and a game-high 13 digs. Grace Boles led the Falcons for the second game in a row with 23 assists.

Tomorrow, UWRF has another pair of matches, set to face Crown College and Carleton College.
