No. 2 Falcons open UWSP series with 4-2 win

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 2-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey opened its weekend WIAC series at UW-Stevens Point Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Pointers.

With its fifth consecutive win, UWRF improves to 13-2 overall and 4-0 among WIAC competition.

The Falcons out shot the Pointers 41-14 and were led by two goals from Alex Hantge and two assists from Emma Schmitz.

UWRF took a 2-0 lead in the first period after a power play goal from Jessica Rubenalt and Hantge's first of two on the night. UWSP scored with just over a second remaining to trim the Falcon lead to 2-1 after one period.

In the second, Bailey Olson scored the eventual game-winner as both teams scored in the third. Hantge gave UWRF its two-goal insurance before the Pointers answered quickly, but that was all the offense the home team could put together.

Sami Miller made 12 saves in net to earn the win, improving her record to 10-1.

The Falcons go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon.
