STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 2-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey defeated UW-Stevens Point 3-1 Saturday afternoon to sweep the Pointers on the road.
UWRF out shot the Pointers 47-20 and won 43 of 57 faceoffs during the win, improving to 14-2 overall and 5-0 during WIAC play.
After a scoreless first period in which the Falcons allowed just one Pointer shot on target,
Brooke Lemke opened the game's scoring at 4:38 of the second, her second of the season.
Bailey Olson followed late in the period to give UWRF a 2-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
UWSP scored on the power play early into the third, which was combated by a Falcons shorthanded goal from
Alex Hantge during the Pointers next man advantage.
Jordan O'Connor made her third start of the season in net and made a season-high 19 saves to receive the win and improve her record to 2-1.
The Falcons remain in WIAC competition next week with a home & home series with UW-Superior Jan. 19-21.
