RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned a 61-51 win over UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon at Page Arena.
The Falcons snap a three-game losing skid to improve to 2-4 in the WIAC and 12-5 overall.
UWRF drew 20 fouls and made a season-high 20 free throws (20-for-25), led by an 11-for-13 clip from
Macy Nilsen, who totaled a game-high 22 points. The Falcons also held the Pioneers to 34 percent shooting from the field.
Zoey Buchan tallied 16 points off the bench while
Kameri Meredith compiled a team-high six rebounds and four steals.
The home team claimed its largest lead of the first half early on, leading 10-2 just under five minutes in. Platteville tied the game at 15-15 about ten minutes and eventually took a couple leads. Three-straight Falcon field goals from Nilsen,
Jaya Hatlestad, and
Karleigh Creasey gave UWRF a 27-21 halftime lead.
An
Averie Varsho triple extended the Falcon lead into double digits at 38-28 with 3:35 left in the third quarter and UWRF led for the rest of regulation. The Pioneers twice cut their deficit two one in the fourth quarter, but the Falcons held on for the win, insured by seven made free throws in the final two minutes.
UWRF heads to UW-La Crosse next Wednesday, Jan. 18.
