RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The top-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in overtime Tuesday evening.
The Falcons, now 19-2 overall with their 11th consecutive win, erased a one-goal deficit after two periods with
MaKenna Aure tying the game at 11:25 of the third period before
Abigail Stow's thrilling OT game-winner with just 5.5 seconds left.
After a scoreless first period, Gustavus capitalized on some Falcon penalty trouble, scoring on a 5-of-3 power play to claim the game's first lead.
Aure's game-tying goal in the third period was assisted by
Holly Eckers and
Maddie McCollins, as the freshman defender broke the the Gustie defense with speed through the neutral zone.
In the waning seconds of the 3-on-3 overtime period, Stow found space down the wing and sniped home the game-winner, her eighth goal of the season and third game-winning goal on the year.
UWRF held a 31-20 advantage in shots on goal while
Sami Miller made 19 saves in net to earn the win.
The Falcons return to WIAC play on Saturday at UW-Superior.
