RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls football team fell 21-14 against No. 7-ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon from Smith Stadium at Ramer Field.
The visiting Warhawks forced four Falcon turnovers, turning those into nine points. Both teams had 20 first downs while UWW led in yards total offense, 369 to UWRF's 332 while holding
Kaleb Blaha and the Falcon offense to a season-low 211 passing yards.
Whitewater shut out the Falcons for the majority of the first half, earning a 15-0 lead early in the second quarter.
UWRF got on the board late in the second half with an 18-yard Blaha to
Mason Van Zeeland touchdown reception, trimming the Warhawk lead to 15-7, where it stood at the break.
UWW opened the second half scoring at 9:50 of the third quarter to extend its lead to 21-7 before the Falcons' comeback efforts.
Down by a pair of scores, the Falcons opened the fourth quarter forcing a Warhawk fumble, caused by
Jack Olson and recovered by
Jake Halsey. On the ensuing drive, Blaha rushed in from seven yards out to cut the UWW lead to 21-14.
The Warhawk defense stymied the Falcons on their next two offensive drives to earn the win.
Kaleb Blaha finished with 314 yards of total offense (211 through the air and 103 rushing).
The Falcon defense caused one Warhawk fumble along with a
Michael Brown interception, his second of the season.
Aaron Borgerding led the Falcons with a season-high 13 tackles (11 solo).
UWRF (5-1 overall, 2-1 WIAC) hits the road for UW-Stevens Point next Saturday.
