RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls volleyball team defeated UW-Eau Claire in five sets Wednesday night. The win was the first for the Falcons over the Blugolds since 2004.
The Blugolds took the first set winning 25-22 and hitting .270 their best set of the night. In the second set, it looked like Eau Claire was going to runaway with it again but back to back errors and a service ace by
Brenna Olson gave the Falcons a 25-23 win.
The two teams traded wins in the next two sets with the Falcons easily wining the third 25-16 and the Blugolds coming back from behind to win the fourth 25-22 to tie it up 2-2 and force a fifth and final set.
In the fifth the Falcons took the lead right away and never looked back winning the set 15-10.
The defense, who was led by
Brenna Olson with 27 digs, held the Blugolds to just a .091 hitting percentage.
Both
Lauren Noth and
Kameri Meredith had a night both collecting double doubles. Noth had 18 kills and 20 digs while Meredith had 18 kills and 19 digs.
Overall, the Falcons only hit .157 but had 63 kills. The third set of the night they hit .308, their best of the match.
Grace Boles had 38 assists and
Katelyn Nichols had another big night in the font row collecting six blocks.
UWRF (18-8, 3-3 WIAC) hosts Hamline November 1 in the final regular season home game of the season. The Falcons will honor the seniors that evening.
