OSHKOSH, Wis. - The No. 11/15-ranked UW-River Falls football team fell by a narrow margin of 38-31 at UW-Oshkosh in the regular season final on Saturday afternoon.
UWRF finishes the regular season with a 7-3 overall record and 4-3 during WIAC competition.
Kaleb Blaha finished with a career-high 43 completions along with three rushing touchdowns to continue to to build upon his record-setting season. He added on to his UWRF single-season scoring record with 22 rushing touchdowns and broke the UWRF single-season record for yards of total offense with 3,882 yards on the year, breaking former his teammate
Kole Hinrichsen's total of 3,546 yards set in 2021. His total of 3,882 yards of total offense is also the fourth most in WIAC single-season history.
An eventful back and forth game led to five turnovers in which UWO capitalized off, scoring 14 points off Falcon mistakes. UWRF totaled 535 yards of total offense compared to UWO's 400, including 395 passing yards with a season-high 61 pass attempts and 43 completions.
The Falcons and Titans each scored once in the first quarter off rushing touchdowns from their quarterbacks,
Kaleb Blaha and Kobe Berghammer.Â
UWO took an early 14-7 lead to open the second quarter, taking advantage of a Blaha interception. UWRF bounced back with a Blaha 27-yard rushing score and on the next Titans drive, and a
Clement Harris sack and forced fumble led to another Blaha's third rushing TD of the half.Â
Late in the half, the home team trimmed the Falcon lead to 21-17 with a field goal and then with the Falcons driving in Titan territory, UWO sacked and forced a Blaha fumble and returned it for a touchdown to earn a 24-21 halftime lead.Â
UWO held the Falcons to just one touchdown in the second half while scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter and forcing another Blaha interception. An
Ethan Chromy 34-yard touchdown pass from Blaha put the Falcons up 28-24 to open the second-half scoring, but the Titans gained a two-score lead to put the game out of reach.
Michael Krueger collected a career-high 12 catches for 107 receiving yards.
Defensively,
Andrew Schumacher led the way with an interception, his third of the season, two pass breakups, and a career-high 10 tackles.
