EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The No. 4 ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated conference rival and No. 8-ranked UW-Eau Claire 5-2 Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons were led by
Maddie McCollins, who recorded her third career hat-trick, her first of the season.
McCollins got the Falcons on the board first scoring a goal at 5:51 in the first period. Two minutes later the Blugolds answered back tying it up 1-1. The scored stayed even till the 12
th minute when McCollins again found the back of the net giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead heading into the first period break.
The Falcons scored three goals in the second period.
Madison Lavergne scored first at 11:39 and
Megan Goodreau scored on the power play opportunity after the Blugolds were called for tripping. McColins scored her third goal of the afternoon for the hattrick to round out the second period.
UWEC scored the only goal of the third period.
UWRF narrowly outshot UWEC 33-29. Both teams were 1-7 on power play opportunities.
Jordan O'Connor recorded the win in goal with 27 saves for a .931 save percentage.
McCollins lead the offense with four points and nine shots total. Goodreau finished the afternoon with three points and had nine shots.
With the win, UWRF improves to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 in WIAC play. They host St. Olaf Nov. 21 in the Falcons lone game of the week.
