STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team earned a 6-1 victory at UW-Stevens Point Thursday evening during its 2023-24 WIAC opener.
The Falcons, now 5-0 overall and 1-0 during conference play, held a 49-10 lead in shots on goal while scoring a trio of goals in each of the first two periods.
UWRF scored four even strength goals along with one shorthanded and one on the power play, led by a pair of goals from
Megan Goodreau, her second multi-goal performance this season. Goodreau got the scoring started just under five minutes into regulation, followed by goals from
Ellie Brice and
Alex Hantge to give UWRF a 3-0 lead after one period.
It took UWSP just 18 seconds into the second period to break the Falcons' shutout, but UWRFÂ answered with three more goals and held the home team scoreless for the rest of the night.
MaKenna Aure scored on the power play minutes later, and Goodreau and
Madison Kadrlik added on to the lead.
Hantge finished with a three-point night, scoring a goal with two assists. In addition,
Aubrey Nelvin,
Allisen Carothers, and
Maddie McCollins all had two assists.
Jordan O'Connor made the start in net and played the first two periods to earn the win. She was relieved by
Anna Rader in the third period, who made three saves for a shutout period in her collegiate debut.Â
UWRF continues WIAC competition this Saturday, hosting Northland College.
