MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey hockey team fell 4-2 Saturday night in the second game of a WIAC Tournament first round matchup at UW-Stout Saturday night, ousting the Falcons from the postseason.
UWRF finishes the season with an 11-15-1 overall record.
After the Falcons and Blue Devils traded goals in the first period, the two teams combined for three consecutive shorthanded goals, including two in a row from Stout's Peyton Hart, giving the home team a 3-1 lead near the midway point of the game for the eventual game-winner.
Logan Severson got the Falcons on the board at 9:40 of the first with help from
Peter Grytdahl and
Anthony Vidrick.
Trailing by two goals, the Falcons cut the Blue Devil lead to 3-2 at 12:41 of the second frame with
Logan Severson's second of the game, and were down by a goal heading into the third period. The Falcons pushed strong in the third, out-shooting Stout 15-10 in the final 20 minutes, but the Blue Devils scored again late in regulation to put the game out of reach.
Dysen Skinner made 29 saves in net while receiving the loss.
