RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 3-ranked and top-seeded UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened postseason action Friday evening at Hunt Arena, defeating No. 5 seed Northland College 7-1 in game one of the WIAC O'Brien Cup Tournament Semifinals.
The Falcons, now 22-3-1 overall, scored twice on the power play and tallied 63 shots on goal in the win.
Maddie McCollins scored twice and
Megan Goodreau had a goal and two assists to lead the way.
UWRF scored a pair of goals in each the first and second periods before adding three more in the third. Northland broke the shutout with just over two minutes left in regulation.
Besides McCollins and Goodreau,
Kenzie Dunn,
Bailey Olson,
Madison Lavergne, and
Brooke Lemke potted goals for the Falcons.
The home team limited the Lumberjills to seven shots on goal, while the goaltending trio of
Sami Miller,
Jordan O'Connor, and
Jordan O'Kane each played a period to combine for the win. Miller made the start and was credited with the win, improving her record to 14-1-1 on the season.
Game two begins at 2:05 p.m. tomorrow at Hunt Arena.
