MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation announced 18 nominees for the 2024 Hockey Humanitarian Award on Monday afternoon, including
UWRF's Sam Anzai.
The award, which is celebrating its 29th season, is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.
Sam Anzai, a fifth-year senior forward on the
UWRF men's hockey team, is a two-year team captain and a 2023
UWRF Chancellor's Award recipient. He earned his bachelor's degree in May of 2023 from the UWRF College of Arts and Science in Biomedical and Health Science, Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology and is currently pursuing a master's in Clinical Exercise Physiology.
Having appeared in over 100 career games on the ice for the Falcons, Anzai has also earned awards such as the UWRF Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, the Falcon "Fly High" award, and was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team twice. Off the ice, he's volunteered his time with UWRF's Run with the Cops, Trick or Treat for Canned Goods, the Strategic Planning Committee, was a representative of the Faculty Senate Student, and more.
