Falcons at Jack Johnson Recap

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The UW-River Falls men's and women's track & field team rounded out its weekend competition on Saturday at the University of Minnesota's Jack Johnson Classic.

After leading the men's heptathlon after day one on Friday, UWRF freshman Jacob Balcome finished on Saturday with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run, and took first with 4,881 points to win the competition. His 4,881 point total is the second highest heptathlon mark in UWRF men's indoor history. He won both the heptahlon's high jump (6-4.75) and 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:51.82.

Outside of Balcome's top finish, the Falcons had several notable marks throughout the day.

Dylan Wachter and Cailyn Kuechle both broke UWRF 600-meter run indoor records. Wachter's lifetime best time of 1:21.59 bested UWRF's Keven Syverson's time of 1:21.95, set in 1992. Kuechle's time also broke a women's indoor record set in 1992 by Terry Sunquist (1:38.83), as Kuechle clocked 1:38.62.

Laina Viere and Haylie Rasmussen also had UWRF top-10 marks. Viere had a time of 18:04.2 (6th all-time at UWRF) to place fifth of 29 runners at Friday's St. Olaf Invitational, while Rasmussen had a 1.57-meter high jump in the pentathlon, ninth all-time at UWRF.

The Falcons have next week off before returning to action at the UW-Superior Maday Classic on Feb. 10 in Superior, Wis.
